Spider Amber Inclusion

A wonderfully messy specimen, upon identifying this piece, I had suspicions that the spider may have been crystalized. But instead the crystalline appearance around the arachnid is a visual effect is caused by taphonomic processes during the resin's fossilization. Simply meaning the spiders internal moisture escaped into the surrounding unhardened resin, then hardened into a rigid, crystalline looking halo over the fossilization process. Spider inclusions are rare, as they only make up to 2% of all Baltic amber inclusions, marking this an extremely rare piece.
